The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has driven the first finished prototype of the New Bus for London off the production line at the Wright factory in Ballymena, Co Antrim where it was shown to the assembled media.
The bus will be in London during December where there will be a launch marking its arrival. Then there will be further trials, formalities and training followed by entry into service with Arriva in the New Year. The other seven prototypes, all in build at Wrights, will join it progressively during the first few months of 2012.
The Engineering Test vehicle has already amassed several thousand miles since May at Millbrook Testing Ground where it has exceeded expectation in terms of fuel economy and environmental emissions performance.
