Views from Newcastle Keep

As part of the Heritage Open Days Weekend http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/ the famous Castle Keep in Newcastle was one of many properties offering free access, so your intrepid Focus Blog reporter made the climb to the top to admire the views - and photograph the transport scenes below.

 Still in the old GNER livery, an East Coast train heads north out of Newcastle station.

 the Millennium Bridge in the background.

 A Northern train crosses the High Level bridge heading for Newcastle Station. This bridge carries the railway on
the top level and the road deck below.
 The train crosses the junction that once was famous for the intricate diamond pointwork, no longer in place and
now much simplified

 An East Coast HST service heads towards Newcastle Station

 Northern unit heads south passing an impressive show of greenery that has taken root high above street level.
