Manchester Trams Affected By Ice

On the first day of frost Manchester's trams have been severely disrupted. Trams to Altrincham and Eccles were affected by ice on the overhead lines and passengers were advised to take buses instead.
When trams did eventually arrive they were full to capacity further upsetting passengers who had been shivering in the cold.

Metrolink passengers are set to be hit by a six per cent hike in fares – nearly one per cent more than inflation.
Transport chiefs say the increase – due to be introduced in January 2012 - will pay towards improving and expanding the tram network.
Not all fares will go up at the same rate but it is expected the average increase will be six per cent.
It comes after passengers were hit with an average 6pc increase in January this year, when some fares increased by 7.3pc.
