Virgin Upset Over bmi Deal

International Airlines Group, the owner of British Airways is set to tighten its grip on Heathrow, buying rival airline bmi from Lufthansa in a deal which will bring ownership of valuable take off and landing slots to 53%.
Virgin said: "British Airways' hold over Heathrow is already too dominant and we are very concerned - as the competition authorities should also be - that BA's purchase of bmi would be disastrous for consumer choice and competition." It is thought that BA plans to use some of bmi's short-haul slots to expand BA's long-haul network.
