Stagecoach have launched their 'Gold' luxury double decker buses that run on the 300 service between Whitehaven and Carlisle on up to an hourly frequency.
Featuring a high quality interior complete with hand stitched leather seats, free WiFi floor level lighting, tinted glass and a distinct flooring and finish the Stagecoach Gold buses are designed to allow passengers to travel in real comfort whilst encouraging them to think of the environment by leaving the car at home. Fitted with the latest Euro 5 engines; the new buses are designed to reduce exhaust emissions and noise offering greener, smarter travel.
Following the launch event the buses were taken to Workington bus station for members of the public to get on board and look around, challenging the perceptions of what modern bus travel is like. With the cost of regular travel starting from £3.71 a day (Carlisle – Maryport – Workington – Whitehaven) for the longer journeys, the bus offers a saving compared to the cost of petrol and parking fees for the average family car. The weekly Megarider (Stagecoach regular travel ticket) ticket is available from the driver with the 28 day, 13 week and 52 week ticket being available online from www.buymymegarider.com
The service travels on an hourly frequency from Whitehaven to Carlisle, via Workington, Maryport, Aspatria, Wigton and Thursby Monday to Saturday and every 2 hours on a Sunday and services are available from early morning until late in the evening.
Nigel Winter, Managing Director of Stagecoach in Cumbria commented “Stagecoach in Cumbria are delighted to bring these high specification buses to the 300 route and hope to encourage more people out of their cars and onto the bus. This represents an investment of £650,000 in the service and as a major employer, with over 500 staff in Cumbria, we are committed to supporting the community and the local economy and to continue to invest in our services throughout the county.”
With a weeks unlimited travel available for just £3.71 per day Stagecoach are hoping to encourage commuters to switch to the bus and with plenty of day ticket, family ticket and single trip tickets available it is also the ideal way to explore the many days out along the route. Whether it is a wander around the harbours of Maryport or Whitehaven, a trip to the aquarium or the Clip and Climb at the Wave centre, the Rum Story museum, shopping in Workington or Carlisle or just to see the beautiful countryside along the route from the upper deck the new Stagecoach Gold 300 will give a luxurious and unique way of seeing the best West Cumbria has to offer.
