Crossrail 2 changed following consultation
The changes have now been put out to consultation
The route Crossrail 2 could take across London has been altered following a public consultation.
The new plans now extend the terminal destination from Alexandra Palace to New Southgate in north London.
Alternative routes through Hackney in east London and a
change in location for a station in Chelsea, south-west London, have
also been put forward.
Last year's consultation received about 14,000 responses with 96% supporting or strongly supporting it.
Fine tuning
The survey also found that 84% supported or strongly supported
the regional option, which would see trains reach Hertfordshire and
Surrey by using National Rail routes.
Some 73% supported the Metro option, which would be an
underground service between Wimbledon and Alexandra Palace, with the aim
of relieving congestion on the Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "We know there's huge
appetite from passengers and from business to get this project off the
ground and as we take the hugely important step in fine-tuning the
potential route, we're genuinely keen to hear people's views."
It is hoped the £16bn project will be operational by the 2030s and boost the city's rail capacity by 10%.
