The North East’s two biggest bus companies are about to go head to head with each other
in a battle of the best.
Go
North East and Stagecoach North East have reached the finals of the prestigious
UK Bus Awards next month.
Both companies have made
the shortlist in a competition to find the country’s top city bus operator and
are also in the running for the UK
Bus Operator of the Year Award.
The
judges have noted Go North East’s continuing investment in vehicles and new
technology, ticket pricing and service delivery.
They
have praised Stagecoach North East’s commitment to high operational standards,
community relationships and its initiatives such as ‘Back on Board’ for job
seekers and ‘VIP’ schemes for young people.
Both
companies will be hoping to take the honours ahead of rival entries from
Nottingham, Manchester, the West Midlands and Merseyside.
Kevin
Carr, managing director of Go North East, said: “This is the third year running
that we’ve made the finals of the UK Bus Awards. It’s a great credit for all of
our two thousand staff that their efforts have been noticed by this independent
industry panel. It’s proof, if proof were needed, that the North East’s bus
companies are among the best.”
Phil Medlicott, managing
director of Stagecoach North East, said: “We’ve got a fantastic team of people
here at Stagecoach North East, all passionate about being the best in the
business. This recognition is testament
to their hard work and commitment to providing the highest standard of service for
our customers.”
The
finals of the UK Bus Awards will take place in London on 18 November.
