Open Train Times

Visit the Opentraintimes website to see up to the minute data on UK's railways.
By choosing a station on the first page of the website under the 'TRAINS' heading, the user can see information from Network Rail open data feeds

Click on a particular train to see how each train is progressing compared to its scheduled timetable.
When a timing point is passed the code E or L is preceded by the number of minutes, so for a train that is 3 minutes late the code 3L is shown and for a train that passes a timing point 2 minutes early the code shown is 2E.

When clicking the 'MAPS' heading train positions can be seen on a signal box type diagram ,with trains being identified by reporting number. As the train progresses the reporting number moves to the next box on the line.
