THE famous funnels synonymous with the iconic Waverley have been gently manoeuvred into place
Spectators eager to witness the delicate operation at the Dales Marine yard in Greenock gathered at the quayside as the red, white and black smoke stacks were lowered into position.
Waverley's operators had to cancel last summer's cruising season after she developed a terminal boiler problem, see here This year's schedule has been thrown into chaos by the coronavirus crisis.
But thanks to massive support from the public, a £2.3m repair job has returned her to shipshape condition again.
The operation to replace the boilers was described as the marine equivalent of open heart surgery.
Waverley Excursions say the work is likely to extend the much loved vessel's operational life by up to 25 years.
