Gates Go Automatic at Chartham and Wye Level Crossings

Two of Kent's three remaining manned level crossings have just become fully automated when their gatekeepers signed off for the last time.

The manually operated gates at Chartham. The signal box will be saved.

The launch of the new systems just outside Chartham station, near Canterbury, and Wye, near Ashford, on December 19 have brought to an end 175 years of railway history.
